At first we must state that TAKTIK by LUNATIK ™ is the best iPhone case on the market, for design, style, effective protection. Again Matt Wilson made a great job with passion and experience as a real master of Design. But i discovered that the proximity sensor with some models of iPhone 4 and 4s is not functional when the case is fitted, due to reflections of the Gorilla Glass.
Lucky I found a Solution for this issue:
Some users already discovered a trick to solve the matter by adding the semi-matt 3MScotch “Magic Adhesive Tape” inside the case on the back of the glass over the proximity sensor window. Ok, but this is not always effective: instead the solution is to put a 3M Black Matte vinyl film (the same used for signs and stickers) with a shape of an “m” so that the “m” base touches the window of speaker below the one of the proximity sensor. The area must be divided approx. as the below sensors. This will allow separation between sensors and isolate the areas of the upper Gorilla Glass so no interference happens.
IT FUNCTIONS !!!!
01 27th 2013 – At Lunatik they are analyzing this patch solution. They must verify if it’s effective on all models of iPhone. In reality this is not a common issue to all iPhones 4 4s but only to some slots of production where for different reasons Apple modified the distance between the proximity and luminosity sensor. I suppose Lunatik will add in box the piece of tape with a note to be applied only by affected users.
It’s a very easy task but it F U N C T I O N S !

Great it is ok also for my iPhone 4 !!!!
Just got my new taktik case and I had the same problem with sensor. I followed your directions and needless to say my problem was solved. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
I’m also having this problem with my iPhone 4S. I tried the fix you showed and I’m still having the problem…I’ve also tried using the 3m Matt finish tape and the closest I got to a fix is I can hold my thumb on the sensor and the screen turns off but the sensor needs to be completely covered…if I put my ear to the phone it still stays on.
I think that the question is the position of the m shape. This is the real trouble since the Apple production slots differs slightly one to another. If your iPhone is white please mask with the same matte black adhesive or a light black paper the area 1 mm around the sensors for about 5mm. If it isn’t white try to adjust the position of the m. To verify if the sensor emission light is coming out correctly look at the phone with siri option (your is a 4s) on with another phone camera or digital camera preview a small trick .. you should see ir emitter light as a violet dot… So you can understand how to position the tape correctly.
Sorry at the end send all info to Lunatik so they can finally solve thsi matter. If you ask to Lunatik customer service they will send you for free the front cover without the Gorilla Glass. I hope this will help you.
I will try your method when I get home today..as for contacting Lunatik, that has been done and a return email from them has been received..In 6-8 weeks ill have a new front bezel sent to my home…now the question I have is why would the new bezel come with gorilla glass..why not just around the sensor eye..i paid for my case just for the added protection of the gorilla glass.
I tested a last production iphone 4s . The ir emitter is exactly in the middle position of the hearphone. So make an u shape cutting a part of the m shape and put in the right middle of the speaker touching with the u ends the seal of it. It should work! My shape in this case was lowering the emitter power so it fubctioned but in a wrong way! Jlk!!!!!
Thank’s work for me!
